J&J: a truly atypical wedding venue near Lyon
In this article, we present to you the wedding inspiration styled shoot that we carried out in the Glay quarries not far from Lyon, a very atypical and above all magnificent place for couple photos on your big day, and why not a little snack / meal with a small group!

For a successful atypical getaway wedding
For this fake wedding to be successful, we needed a very atypical place that we will tell you about in the next part of this article, but also two very lively and energetic models for photos that are alive and full of joy. The goal was to show a couple who would have wanted a romantic getaway for their wedding, to really enjoy the present moment (since this is the goal of what we call elopement weddings). The glay quarries: an atypical place near Lyon
We chose a very unusual place for this wedding shoot, close to Lyon and yet too little known: the Glay quarries. These quarries, whose golden stones gave their name to the places that surround it, are classified as a UNESCO Global Geopark.
When we arrive, a fairly large car park (around fifty spaces) welcomes us and gives us a view of the surrounding landscapes that we overlook. If you are looking for a view of the Beaujolais while rising a little, a large field of grass is accessible just next to the parking lot for pretty pictures!
We installed our wedding decoration inside the quarry, going down from the parking lot (allow about ten minutes to walk, although it surely seemed longer to me because we were leaving all the decoration material). It must be taken into account that we were authorized to cross the barriers by the personnel of the Glay quarry who opened the doors to us. For your own wedding photoshoot, contact them a little earlier to find out if it will be possible for you too!
We chose for the decoration of the place colors close to the hue of the golden stones which were extracted from the quarry.
- Red is the furthest color from it that we have therefore used by keys (for signs, plates …).
- We then chose a gradient of orange and yellow (for the tablecloth, the carpet, the vases …).
- We of course used a little green for the floral arrangements, and for the wedding ring box.
These colors work very well with this atypical place, so do not hesitate to take inspiration from them if you want to organize your wedding or even just a photoshoot in a similar place!
