How to choose the perfect wedding jewellery for you

As wedding photographers, we love to photograph the jewelry you’ve chosen for your big day. And today, we decided to help you choose your jewelry to match with the rest of your wedding!

Jewellery is often such a personal choice, and a lot of people tend to keep everyday pieces separate from their occasion pieces. Your wedding jewellery is particularly special as you will wear it on this important occasion in your life, and the chances are it will feature in wedding photographs that you’ll see for years to come, so it’s important to get it right.

Some couples opt to keep it simple and familiar with their accessories on their wedding day, as this way they can feel comfortable that the jewels they choose suit them. If you want the opportunity to go big and bold though, this is the perfect chance – it’s your turn to be the centre of attention, after all.

We take a look at some of the things to consider when choosing the perfect jewellery for your wedding day.

Mix and match your rings

Your engagement ring and your wedding ring are the pieces of jewellery that you’ll likely keep on for the majority of the time, for most of your life, so you need to make sure that you like them! Whilst some couples do choose to match the metal of their engagement ring to their wedding ring, mixing it up can be a fun way to assert your personality.

For example, if you have a white gold engagement ring, why not choose a rose gold wedding ring? Allow your personal tastes to dictate your jewellery choices, rather than any preconceived notions that you’ve heard about what goes with what. Just check that your rings fit together perfectly with the help of a jeweller, as large diamonds on engagement rings can push your wedding ring out of line.

Match your theme

If you’re having a vintage wedding, complete with victory rolls for the bride and bridesmaids and a vintage car to whisk you off in style, then you might choose to match your jewellery accordingly. For example, you might choose classic pearls in this case, with more subtle stud earrings. However, if you’re having a whimsical boho wedding, drop pendants and big, dreamcatcher style earrings will suit the laid back, dreamy atmosphere.

Choosing to match your jewellery to your chosen aesthetic and theme is the perfect way to tie everything together.

Match your outfit

For the bride and bridesmaids, the neckline of their dresses will likely affect the jewellery that you choose to opt for. Crucially, a necklace should sit on your skin rather than on the fabric of the dress, unless it is high-necked. This can be doubly important on a lace wedding dress, as any snagging on the delicate fabric can cause a tear or unseemly stretch in the pattern.

Lower necklines such as sweetheart necklines, v-necks or strapless styles can get away with choosing a statement necklace, as there is enough skin displayed to show it off. Make sure you try your jewellery on well in advance of the big day so that you can be sure you love it. If you’re unsure, ask a friend for their opinion or ask them to take some photos so you can check you’re happy with the overall effect.

If you have an open back or a prominent neckline on the back of your wedding dress, why not try a back piece?

Very trendy jewelry or simple back pendants to add to your bridal necklace, they enhance wedding dresses ! The hairstyle must show this jewel in order to highlight it, a hairstyle with the hair raised is therefore recommended if you have long hair.
